RAW MIZER

Raw Meat Collective & Bob Mizer Foundation

May 5 – May 26, 2022

A lot of artists pull from many different inspirational backgrounds, however, Mizer’s bold and pristine eye is as fresh as tomorrow. Mizer’s photographs are timeless, iconic, and full of life to this day. He inspires visual artistic minds from all over this world and will continue to do so for many years to come.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As an independent curator, publisher, and artist, I often observe what sparks ideas, drives influences and motivates artists. I first established Raw Meat Collective in 2015 as a queer and erotic fine art universe, carving its path within the contemporary art and publishing worlds.

As a curator, I started to wonder how Mizer’s photographic eye and stunning environments really inspired queer artists. A lot of artists pull from many different inspirational backgrounds. However, Mizer’s bold and pristine eye is as fresh as tomorrow. Mizer’s photographs are timeless, iconic, and full of life to this day. Dramatic settings, beautifully posed figures, and a massive variety of artwork, Mizer is motivation and inspiration just as ever. He inspires visual artistic minds from all over this world and will continue to do so for many years to come.

My hope with this collaboration was to inspire fresh and young artists, while asking each one to produce a never-before-seen work of art, inspired by Mizer’s legacy and archive. With the blessing of the Mizer foundation, 10 curated artists were allowed to dive deep into the archives of Mizer’s mind and photography. Each artist was asked to pick a reference photograph that they were specifically drawn to and create a new work of art with that in reference.
